Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Remember The Tags

Today’s Tips & Tricks Tuesday entry is so helpful, I’m not sure how I’ve been able to use Remember The Milk without it! Thanks to ralfvd for posting this on the forum.

As I’ve mentioned in the past few weeks, the beauty of RTM is its ability to be shaped into a system that works for you. Want to know how long it will take to complete all the items on your to-do list? RTM can help. Need to know what items are due in the next calendar month? RTM has got it covered… but the only way RTM can do this is if you remember to enter values for the different entry details like tags, time estimate, and location, which brings us to today’s tip.

ralfvd mentioned that he likes to keep track of tasks that require a list to be allocated, and a location and tags to be entered. So, he uses the search term:

isLocated:false OR isTagged:false OR list:Inbox

to create a Smart List called “Check”. Once this Smart List is created, ralfvd can go back and enter the details that he needs, and the tasks will be removed from the “Check” list and put in their proper places.

I thought I’d try this tip, making a few changes to reflect the details that I always seem to forget to add when quickly entering my tasks: tags, a time estimate and a due date. Here’s the search that I created:

isTagged:false OR (NOT timeEstimate:“> 0”) OR due:never

Now all my detail-starved items show up in this (unfortunately huge) list, and I can add whatever is needed to get them working for me!

Thanks ralfvd for helping us to remember the tags! :D You’re our winner this week.
