Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Staying motivated with completed tasks

It can be easy to look at a long list of tasks for the day and to get discouraged. However, to help watch as the proverbial scales tip in your favor, this week’s tip, shared by tvjames, recommends keeping an eye on how much you’ve already done today.

I track everything I need to do around my house from the mundane – “load washing machine” (daily) to the more obscure “change furnace filter” (after 90 days).

But that’s such a large list. When I start tackling it on a Saturday, it’s easy to get burnt out.

But thanks to the automatically updating nature of the desktop app, it helps me to stay motivated by having RTM open in two browser windows. One, about 2/3 of the screen, shows me the tasks to do. (I have lists and rooms and other ways of segmenting those.)

The other, in a smaller window (about 1/3 of the screen) shows me a Smart List called “Completed” (search for completed:today). Each time I complete a task, not only does it disappear from my list, but just as satisfying, it blinks onto the top of the other list, complete with the time I completed it.

Thanks for sharing this tip, tvjames! You’re our Tips & Tricks Tuesday winner this week.
