Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Learning a new language with repeating tasks
Learning a secondary language requires regular effort: a few minutes per day will create momentum and help you retain what you’ve learned. In this week’s tip, Cyrille shares a simple way to use repeating tasks to learn new vocabulary in a secondary language.
In addition to to-do list purposes, I am using RTM to learn vocabulary in foreign languages. To do so, I have created a list, e.g. “EN vocab”. Each time I read a new word in English I would like to retain, I add a new task whose title is the French word (my mother tongue), in a note the English translation (not to see it directly), with a weekly frequency.
This way, each day I have a few words for which I try to remember the English translation, I can check if I am right looking at the note. After several weeks, when I have the feeling to retain better a word, I increase the frequency to finally remove the repeated task.
This is a way to use RTM for drill-and-practice exercises.
