Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Job searching with Remember The Milk

Finding a new job can be difficult: lots of legwork, deadlines, and wading through search results. (“Which website did I find that on?”) Well, Remember The Milk is good at helping you make lists, and this week’s tip comes from tardis88 to help you prioritize a list of potential jobs (or schools!) you can apply for.

As I’m nearing the end of my undergrad career, I’ve been making a list in RTM of possible places I’d love to work for. I tag them according to industry (or the kind of job I see myself doing there) then I prioritize them according to the following:

1. LOVE the job / might be a reach
2. Like the job / possible to get in
3. Good enough / safety (when all else fails!)

When I’m ready to apply, I’ll add “due dates” of application deadlines to all of these companies and then check them off as I send each application.

I can also see this system working for those applying to schools. You can tag schools according to location and whatever else you thought was unique to that school. The priorities would also work in terms of predicting which places you have a good chance of being accepted in and which are “reaches”.

Thanks for sharing this tip, tardis88! You’re our Tips & Tricks Tuesday winner this week.
