Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Contacting friends to stay in touch regularly

image

Keeping in touch with all your old friends seems like a daunting affair. However, with this week’s tip from eoe, you can set up a rotation to contact your friends with just an email per week!

I have friends all over the world and it’s hard to keep up. I don’t use Facebook and like to write emails to them (emails are the new snail mail!), but often procrastinate or don’t remember who I contacted recently and who I haven’t contacted in 3 years.

I made a list, “Contacts”, where I list all the people I want to stay in touch with. Each person gets a start date of a Saturday, and each time I write I cycle them to the end of the list. An example is easier to follow:

• Bob - Start Date: Saturday, August 31st
• Jane - Start Date: Saturday, September 7th
• Larry - Start Date: Saturday, September 14th
• …

After I write Bob, I make his Start Date: Sept 21st

I love this for 2 main reasons:

1. Having only 1 pop up every week makes it easier to tackle
2. I make sure I keep in touch with everyone equally

The one eye-opening thing I discovered when I did this is that if I contact 1 friend every week, I only contact them twice a year! This gives me more motivation to write them since it’s so easy to lose touch for years.

The bonus is the emails you get back!
