Remember The Milk for Android: Now with magical push syncing awesomeness!

Back in July, we added smarter auto-syncing to the Remember The Milk for Android app. This was a pretty cool feature that Bob really liked working on, but it only let tasks that you changed on your device get pushed out to Remember The Milk, and not the other way around.

Today, we’re excited to announce that version 1.4.0 (“Rachael”) of the app now includes push syncing, which means that the changes you make to your Remember The Milk tasks online are automagically pushed to your Android device (or, if you’re lucky, multiple Android devices all at once! :).

Magical push syncing illustration

To experience this magical push syncing awesomeness, you’ll need an Android device running OS version 2.2 (Froyo) or above. This device must have the Android Market app on it (and a Google account associated) for push syncing to work.

If your device supports push syncing, you can enable this feature in the Settings screen of the Android app by selecting Sync Schedule. Push Sync is now the default setting, and it’s the one we recommend (if you haven’t changed this setting previously, it’ll automatically set to this). Syncing now only happens when something actually changes on your device or Remember The Milk online, so no more superfluous background syncing!

While Bob was in the mood for an Android app update, we made a few other changes, too…

Localization updates

We love making the app available in as many languages as possible. This version brings localization updates for Greek, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish and Swedish. Interested in helping to make the app available in your language? We’d really appreciate any help – please check out our online translation program.

Bug fixes and enhancements

We’ve also taken the opportunity to include some other small enhancements and fixes in this release:

  • The sort order for the Inbox can now be changed.
  • Auto-correction is now enabled on the note editing screen.
  • The app has been updated to support the latest timezone changes around the world.

New trials for everyone (even monkeys)

Bob says... have another trial?

The app is available as a free download on the Android Market for Pro users. If you don’t have a Pro account yet, you can get a 15 day free trial by downloading the app. With this update, we’ve reset everyone’s trials in our system… so everyone who’s tried the app previously can now start a new 15 day trial to explore the latest features. Why not give it another go today? :)

Enjoy the updates!

We hope you like this latest app release! Want to learn more about the app in general? Check out the Remember The Milk for Android section of the site.
