Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Keep track of completed tasks in Google Calendar

Bob T. Monkey waters his plants, one of his daily tasks

Using iCalendar is a great way to keep track of your tasks in Google Calendar, but once they are completed your upcoming schedule clears. hashnuke liked the idea of keeping track of completed tasks too, so this week’s tip is a novel approach using the IFTTT integration to tie things together and to see what you’ve accomplished. :)

I wanted to track and visualize how I’m progressing with daily routine tasks. I made an IFTTT applet to add any task I want to track to Google Calendar once it is completed.

Setup is easy:

1. Create a new calendar on Google Calendar to keep these events separate.
2. Signup for IFTTT.com, enable the applet and choose your calendar to add tasks to.
3. Add the tag “trackthis” to any task you want to track.
4. Mark tasks as complete and watch your Google Calendar speak volumes about your routine :)

Have fun!
