Scheduled maintenance (take 2)

A couple of weeks ago, we had scheduled maintenance at RTM while we completed some upgrades and added additional hardware. Unfortunately some of the new hardware hasn't performed quite as well as we would have liked, so we need to schedule a second round of maintenance to switch hardware :(
So… Remember The Milk will be down for scheduled maintenance tomorrow (Saturday), starting at 5pm Sydney time (view in your timezone). The site will be down for up to an hour — we'll post again here once we're done. We're really sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience during this upgrade!
Tip: You might be aware that you can use RTM with Google Gears to manage your tasks while offline. Provided you have it set up prior to our scheduled maintenance, you can use this feature to manage your tasks while RTM is offline too — your changes during this period will be synchronized when RTM returns from maintenance.
Update 6:15PM Sydney time: It's taking a little longer than anticipated, but we should be done shortly.

Scheduled maintenance

Remember The Milk will be down for scheduled maintenance tomorrow (New Year's Day), starting at 5pm Sydney time (view in your timezone). The site will be down for up to two hours while we perform some upgrades and add additional hardware.
In addition to making RTM a little faster for you guys, these upgrades mean that we'll be able to scale our hardware more easily in the future (so any further upgrades should be much more seamless). We'll do our best to complete this maintenance as quickly as possible, and we'll post again here once we're done. Thanks for your patience!

Today's problems – an explanation

We experienced problems earlier today at Remember The Milk, and while everything is back up and running once again, I just wanted to explain what happened.
The first problem was that a critical piece of hardware failed. By itself, this wouldn't have been too bad; it chose a spectacularly bad time to fail (a peak time for RTM use), but putting that aside, things should have been okay.
The real problem occurred as a result of the first one: when that piece of hardware decided to fail, it wasn't content with its own destruction. Uh oh. It decided to destroy several other pieces of important hardware too. It goes without saying that this is bad. Very bad.
Fortunately, we had a dedicated team of hardware ninjas on hand. They were able to perform the delicate operations required to replace the destroyed hardware with shiny new parts. We've now given all our hardware a stern talking to, and let it know that such destructive behaviour is unacceptable.
Once again, we apologise to everyone who was inconvenienced during this outage. Thanks for your patience and understanding!

The site is temporarily unavailable due to some hardware issues, and we're working to get everything back up and running again as quickly as possible. Sorry to everyone for the inconvenience — we'll post once this is resolved.

Update 5:00AM Sydney time: The hardware that caused the problem is being replaced…
Update 6:15AM Sydney time: We now have shiny new replacement hardware, and should be able to bring things back up shortly.
Update 7:00AM Sydney time: We're back! We'll be monitoring things to make sure that everything is running smoothly. Once again, we apologise for this outage.

Firstly, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to those who have already upgraded to a Pro account. We really appreciate your support!

Network problems

Our primary data center is currently experiencing some network problems, making the site unavailable. Sorry to everyone for the inconvenience — we'll post once this is resolved.
Update 3:00PM Sydney time: The data center is still experiencing problems — unfortunately it looks like this is a power outage due to inclement weather, rather than network problems. We're waiting on the emergency response team to bring things back up in the data center before we can get the site back up. Thanks for your patience!
Update 4:00PM Sydney time: Power has now been restored in the data center, and we're waiting on technicians to bring everything back up. We should be back online shortly!
Update 5:00PM Sydney time: Looks like we're back up and running smoothly now. Once again, we apologise for any inconvenience during this outage.

Downtime

Remember The Milk has been misbehaving this afternoon — we're really sorry about the downtime. We have Bob T. Monkey working as quickly as he can to get things back up and running. We'll keep you posted until we get it fixed.
