Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Checking out new songs
Tuesday, August 30, 2011 by Andrew Conkling
"What was the name of that song?" If you've ever been bothered by forgetting a song, you'll appreciate this week's tip, shared by vkhubani, which offers a simple way to keep track of what new songs you hear so you never forget again.

When I'm in the gym and I hear a cool song, I use my phone to discover it's name (something like SoundHound or Shazam). These apps usually have a "share" feature so that you can send the name of the song you just heard to a friend. I simply send it to my RTM email address and add "#music" to the subject line. That way, when I get around to downloading songs into my mp3 player all I have to do is open the list and I have all the new tunes I've heard lately.

Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Domain watching
Tuesday, August 23, 2011 by Andrew Conkling
If you own your own internet domain name, you'll know that it can be hard to keep track of any renewal dates, often a year or more from when you register them.
This week's tip, shared by b3njamin, suggests using tasks to be reminded of expiring domains you want to purchase and billing dates of domains you already own.
Although my GoDaddy account auto-renews all my domains, it's still handy to have an annually repeating event to show billing days. But the main priority for me is to add expiry dates of domains I'm interested in poaching if the current owner no longer wants them. I simply added a new list ('Domains') and then added events for each domain I'm interested in. I made them due on the expiry date, which can be grabbed from a simple Whois lookup (http://who.is for example).

Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Using Remember The Milk in a daily stand-up meeting
Tuesday, August 16, 2011 by Andrew Conkling
Using Remember The Milk to manage your tasks helps you keep track of what you have to do, and what you have recently completed. This week's tip, shared by lasthunter, discusses how you can keep this info handy for daily use.

Agile software development really goes along the GTD methodology.
Daily morning stand-up meetings are for reviewing what each team member did last day and what he will be doing today.
It is of course very difficult to remember what I was doing. And that's the moment when RTM comes in play – I look at my working list and go through recently completed tasks.
And for upcoming tasks for the day – I just look at my @Today Smart List (which I prepare before the stand-up from the tasks tagged as @next) and tell the rest of the team what I plan to do.

Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Easily processing your "Waiting For" list
Tuesday, August 9, 2011 by Andrew Conkling
Remember The Milk can be useful to manage tasks that you've delegated to others: aside from the sharing and sending features we offer, you can simply remind yourself which things you're waiting on from others. This week's tip, shared by jamesr404, explains how he does this and offers a method for keeping track of these tasks in his email.
All the stuff you ask others to do or you're waiting for. How do you make sure it actually happens? I, like many people, just have a list of items I'm waiting for and periodically check the list to see if they followed up on my request.
That way I don't have to keep it on mind and worry about it all the time, "what if he doesn't come back to me about it?" "what if he forgets about it?" After all, we're only human.
That's what I use RTM for. I've got a list of every task I've delegated, e-mail awaiting an answer, and I found it is a great way to keep focus on the things you've trusted to others to do for you.
Now to be able to process that list as fast as possible, I run a search in Gmail for the subject of the e-mail, and then I just copy the top address bar and paste it in the URL section of my task; so that could be a URL like: https://mail.google.com/mail/#apps/TPS+report
I then use the RTM Gmail addon to have a list of my tasks in the *same* window as my e-mail, makes it even easier!, then I just click on the task and then the URL and I instantly see if they got back to me – or if it's time to send a reminder e-mail / pick up the phone, whatnot.
Peace of mind while spending the least amount of time on chasing those outstanding items =]

Remember The Milk for iPhone and iPad: now with push syncing
Thursday, August 4, 2011 by Omar Kilani
Hot on the heels of the shiny new real time updating for the Remember The Milk web app, we're excited to announce that our iOS apps now support push syncing (no app update required).
This means that any changes made to your account will automatically be pushed out to your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. (The iOS app has to be open to receive the changes in real time, due to OS limitations.) A Pro account is required to take advantage of push syncing.
Here's a demonstration of push syncing that we prepared earlier:
We hope you enjoy all the new push syncing goodness.

Tuesday, August 2, 2011 by Omar Kilani
Users of our Android app have enjoyed real time push syncing for a while now. We've always wanted to add this real time updating awesomeness to the web app, and with the help of Scala, Akka, Netty and Unfiltered, we're excited to announce that real time updates are finally here.

This magical real time updating goodness means that you'll see changes to your tasks as soon as they happen. Updated a task on your shiny new iPad? Bam! The update shows up in your browser without you lifting a finger. Postponed a bunch of tasks on your Android device? Boom! There they are all freshly postponed. Someone you're sharing tasks with decides to tag a bunch of tasks with 'bananas'? Ka-ching! Little blue tags magically appear on your tasks.
Real time updating is now available with Google Chrome, Firefox 3+, IE 8+, Safari 5+, and Opera 10+. We hope you enjoy this magical new era of real time awesomeness. :)

Tips & Tricks Tuesday: DIY with Remember The Milk
Tuesday, August 2, 2011 by Andrew Conkling
Owning a home can imply a great deal of DIY (Do It Yourself) maintenance; we've discussed work in a new home previously, but they require more ongoing work too. This week's tip, shared by dankjewelske, offers an idea for how to get a few things done at home at once.

I have been using RTM for some time now and am a huge fan of tags. I'm also a big fan of doing stuff around the house (especially when I can drill holes) and RTM is helping me with that.
Everytime I see something around the house that I can improve, or when I get a crazy creative idea, I add it to my Home list and tag it with DIY and the tool I am going to need for that particular job. Usually my diy-tasks have no due date, which means they can get a bit forgotten in my case (I keep a lot of tasks in my lists).
So whenever I grab some tool from my attic, I check in RTM if there are more walls that need holes (drill), or more things that need to be glued together (glue), etc. Since I already have the tools out, it's only a small effort to do similar tasks right away!
And I love the excuse to drill more holes ;)
