Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Avoiding impulse shopping
Tuesday, September 28, 2010 by Andrew Conkling
This week's tip, shared by miquelmartin, offers a way to keep yourself from buying something as soon as you see it:
Whenever I get all enthusiastic about buying something, I find it helps to keep my fingers off it, and make a task such as "Consider buying this" due the next day. If I'm still interested then, I can make a far better case for buying it!

Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Dinner planning with Remember The Milk
Tuesday, September 21, 2010 by Andrew Conkling
We hear about a lot of different things that Remember The Milk users keep track of with their tasks. This week's tip, shared by erlang, shows how you can use your tasks to manage your family's meals:
First, me and my wife have a shared list in Remember The Milk, this list is called Dinners.
First time we did type in seven dishes (as tasks). We first added the needed ingredients to our shopping list. This means, all uncompleted tasks in this list, are dishes that we either already have all the ingredients for, or that we plan on shopping all the needed ingredients for very soon – we usually do the dinner planning right before going to the grocery store.
Then we put due dates usually for all of the next 7 days. We may still have a number of dishes (uncompleted tasks) without due dates; which means that we have all the ingredients and may swap if we feel like. The list will look something like this:

Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Efficient errands with tagging and Smart Lists
Tuesday, September 14, 2010 by Andrew Conkling
This week's tip, shared by dina.demaio, will help any frequent shoppers make the most of their time out.

There have been many times when I'd get home from Target and look at my grocery list, only to realize that I could have picked up the essentials (diapers, milk) at Target. But noooo, now I'd have to make a separate trip.
It happened one time too often, and finally I'd had enough.
I set up a series of Smart Lists – hardware, grocery, department, costco. They're all set to show items from a third "master" list that are tagged with the corresponding Smart List name(s) and "need". So now, batteries, diapers, etc. are tagged with all of the places they can be bought, along with "need".
This way, all my shopping lists are cross-referenced, and I'm running fewer errands – I'm saving time, fuel and my remaining sanity.

Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Make an email alias to easily add your tasks
Tuesday, September 7, 2010 by Andrew Conkling

This week's simple, helpful tip comes from rusharound:
I love the RTM email address that puts items into your list. The trouble is, it's a hard one to remember. I made an email alias with my ISP that forwards all email sent to todo@mydomain.com to my RTM address. It saves a lot of time and grief.
Be sure to check out the replies in that topic for some specific angles on this idea, and read more about our email service on our site.
