Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Memorising and motivation
Tuesday, April 28, 2009 by Krissy Bradfield
This week’s Tips & Tricks Tuesday entry is a bit different to the ideas we’ve shared over the last few weeks. Firstly, we have two winners – david.esposito1 and dwr816 – and secondly, we’re moving away from technical tips and looking at how RTM can help keep you motivated and aid in memorising important info. The following suggestions are very simple in their set-up and will come in very handy.
david.esposito1 says “If you have a quote that motivates you to focus and move forward and thus being more productive during your day…create a task about it, and have it repeat daily, weekly, monthly…etc. Heck make your own list of quotes that you truly identify with and have them shuffle throughout the week or month and simply have them repeat accordingly on your task list.”
dwr816 adds “I use repeating tasks to help memorize passwords, phone numbers, etc. A reminder repeats till I've memorized the item.”
Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Using sleeper tags
Tuesday, April 21, 2009 by Krissy Bradfield
Welcome to this week’s Tips & Tricks Tuesday! This week we’re looking at the idea of “sleeper tags”, as suggested by RTM user rajjan. This tip allows you to decide how far in advance (in relation to the due date) a task appears in your RTM Smart List.
Setting up and using sleeper tags is a simple 3 step process.
1. Create a Smart List with the following criteria and save it as "zzz":
(tag:zzz AND dueAfter:now)
OR (tag:z1d AND dueAfter:"1 day of now")
OR (tag:z2d AND dueAfter:"2 days of now")
OR (tag:z1w AND dueAfter:"1 week of now")
OR (tag:z1m AND dueAfter:"1 month of now")
Handy hint: You can create and use as many tags as you like using the pattern above to represent "sleep" time (i.e., z5d, z2w, z3m, etc) as long as you include them in the search criteria.
Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Remember The Tags
Tuesday, April 14, 2009 by Krissy Bradfield
Today’s Tips & Tricks Tuesday entry is so helpful, I’m not sure how I’ve been able to use Remember The Milk without it! Thanks to ralfvd for posting this on the forum.
As I’ve mentioned in the past few weeks, the beauty of RTM is its ability to be shaped into a system that works for you. Want to know how long it will take to complete all the items on your to-do list? RTM can help. Need to know what items are due in the next calendar month? RTM has got it covered… but the only way RTM can do this is if you remember to enter values for the different entry details like tags, time estimate, and location, which brings us to today’s tip.
ralfvd mentioned that he likes to keep track of tasks that require a list to be allocated, and a location and tags to be entered. So, he uses the search term:
isLocated:false OR isTagged:false OR list:Inbox
to create a Smart List called “Check”. Once this Smart List is created, ralfvd can go back and enter the details that he needs, and the tasks will be removed from the “Check” list and put in their proper places.

Tips & Tricks Tuesday: Using Time Estimates
Tuesday, April 7, 2009 by Krissy Bradfield
This week’s idea comes from RTM user chandra.gaajula, who shared a great tip in the Tips & Tricks forum recently. Like me, Chandra sounds like he has lots of different tasks in various lists and he likes to know how much time he needs to set aside to get everything done.
First things first: you need to make sure all your tasks have a time estimate included in the task details. Without it, the following won’t work.

Chandra suggested creating a new Smart List with the search term of:
status:incomplete AND isShared:false AND due:today
This will create a new Smart List that displays all the tasks you have due today. In the List detail view, you’ll see how long it will take to complete all the tasks displayed in the list (this is highlighted in the image to the right). This will give you an idea of how long it will take to complete your list — very handy stuff, especially for planning your day.
Now supported: IE8
Wednesday, April 1, 2009 by Emily Boyd

With the recent release of IE8, we've been tweaking RTM to make sure that it runs as smoothly as possible in this browser; we're now happy to add IE8 to our list of officially supported browsers.
IE8 is faster than previous versions of IE (making RTM faster too!), so if you're an IE user and haven't grabbed the new version just yet, we'd strongly recommend upgrading now.
