Command your tasks

Monday, September 29, 2008 by Emily Boyd

We're big fans of using commands to quickly add and interact with your tasks, so wanted to share these two cool new ways you can interact with RTM. (Both use the RTM API, so if you're feeling inspired, please feel free to hack on your own RTM command tool. :)

RTM Ubiquity

Mozilla Labs recently announced Ubiquity, a Firefox extension that allows you to interact with web services using natural language commands. Gary Hodgson has created a handy Ubiquity command that allows you to interact with RTM and add, view and complete your tasks. (If you have Ubiquity installed, just visit Gary's page and you'll be prompted to install the command.

FARR Remember The Milk Plugin (FarrRmilk)

Another cool tool, Philipp's FarrRmilk allows you to access your RTM tasks and lists using Find and Run Robot (FARR). Available for Windows, FARR is described as a "program for keyboard maniacs". FarrRmilk's features include filtering and sorting tasks, adding and editing tasks and notes, managing lists, viewing tags, and more.

Scheduled maintenance [complete]

Sunday, September 28, 2008 by Emily Boyd

We'll be doing some maintenance this weekend to perform an upgrade that will increase capacity. RTM will be down for up to three hours today (Sunday), starting at 2:45pm Sydney time (view in your timezone). I'll post again here once we're done — thanks for your patience! :)

Tip: You might be aware that you can use RTM with Google Gears to manage your tasks while offline. Provided you have it set up prior to our scheduled maintenance, you can use this feature to manage your tasks while RTM is offline too — your changes during this period will be synchronized when RTM returns from maintenance.

Update 6:15PM Sydney time: The hardware hamsters* have done our bidding, and the upgrade is complete. Thanks for waiting, everyone!

Update 8:45PM Sydney time: We spoke too soon! We're just working out some kinks in the new system to get performance back to normal again. Sorry everyone!

Update 9:45PM Sydney time: Erm, that didn't go quite as smoothly as planned, but everything's good now. Maybe we'll stick with the ninjas next time.

*The usual ninjas were on vacation, but I'm assured that the hamsters know their stuff.

Back in a little bit… [resolved]

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 by Emily Boyd

The site is temporarily unavailable due to some hardware issues, and we're working to get everything back up and running again as quickly as possible. Sorry to everyone for the inconvenience — I'll post once this is resolved.

Update 11:00PM Sydney time: The hardware ninjas have worked their magic, and we're back! We're keeping an eye on things to make sure that everything is running smoothly.

Join the growing RTM team (all primates welcome)

Wednesday, September 10, 2008 by Emily Boyd

Bob!

As Remember The Milk grows and we head towards a million registered users, we've been thinking about where we want to go with the service in the future. We're a pretty small team right now (including a cow and a monkey), but have big ambitions and ideas for RTM, so we need to grow if we're going to get everything done!

So, we're expanding the team (yay!), and have two full-time positions available: JavaScript Engineer, and Server-side Engineer. Both jobs are great opportunities to make an impact and shape RTM's future (and you get to work on cool stuff that helps people to lead more organized lives :) Our mission is to make the world more organized and productive; if you'd like to join us in this quest, head on over to the jobs page and get in touch!

Update: These positions have now been filled. Thanks to everyone who applied!

Google Chrome + RTM

Google Chrome

Wow, you guys sure love Google Chrome! How do I know that? This past week, our stats show that around 10% of RTM site visitors have been Google Chrome users; not bad for a browser that had its public debut less than a week ago!

While we haven't yet added Google Chrome to our list of 'officially' supported browsers (we usually wait for browsers to come out of the beta stage), we'd like to offer the best experience possible when using RTM in this browser. If you do experience any problems or notice any quirks when using our site in Google Chrome, please let us know.

We've also been hearing many requests for making our Remember The Milk for Gmail extension available for Google Chrome. Unfortunately Google Chrome doesn't support extensions just yet, but as soon as that changes, we'll see what's possible. :)
