Updates

Friday, October 28, 2005 by Omar Kilani

We've been busy, and so have our users — the last three days have been our most active to date.

We're sorry we haven't blogged for a while, but we've been fixing bugs and developing new and exciting features based on the enormous amount of feedback we've received over the past couple of weeks.

Our most requested feature: You can now click on tasks in the overview. Clicking on a task will take you to the list that it's in and will bring up the task's details.

We've also added an all lists Atom feed (available under Settings/Info) and the ability to specify a list name for emailed-in tasks.

In addition to the above, we've improved the robustness of our email processor (please stop emailing in gigantic attachments! ;) and added a few more entries to our supported networks list for SMS reminders (though we'd love to have more).

On top of the above, we've been busy getting even more performance out of our systems, and improved our list loading performance by 1000x (not that you would've noticed, but faster is always better, right? :)

Translations

Work on our translation system is progressing nicely and we currently have 14 languages lined up to be translated. Let us know if you'd like to help.

More on translations as soon as we've completed the system.

Emails

Over the past weekend we replied to 700+ emails, but still have several hundred more to go. We're doing our very best to reply to every email we get. So, send us more feedback!

Press

Remember The Milk was featured in LinuxWorld (I guess the technology thing isn't so secret any more. Oops. ;) and ZDNet.

We've also received mentions in the St Petersburg Times in Florida and ynet in Israel.

We'll be posting as we have more updates — we're just getting started… :)

Here are the top 5 questions we've received since launch, and their answers.

1. Will Remember The Milk be available in my language?

We currently have volunteers interested in translating into Chinese (Traditional), German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian and Spanish. 2. Will it be free after beta?

Yes — you don't have to worry about not being able to access your data in the future.

3. Can I synchronize with Outlook?

Not yet, but this is something we're working on.

4. How's the public API coming along?

The public API is being worked on, and more details will be available soon.

5. What technologies did you use to build Remember The Milk?

That's a secret. ;) However, a lot of them start with the letter 'P'…

50,000 tasks

Tuesday, October 18, 2005 by Emily Boyd

As of… right now, there are over 50,000 to-do tasks being managed with Remember The Milk. We've received a tremendous amount of feedback over the past 5 days, and thought we'd share some of it.

Around the web

Goyishekop:

New web services are emerging thick and fast… Some are fine, but still slow… Some are amazing. Check out Remember The Milk, which appeared today: blazingly fast and a clean UI. Hard to imagine you'd use a desktop app for to-do lists anymore.

Ned Wolf:

If your idea of organization centers primarily on to-do lists, this is the application to use… The interface is fast and clean and very intuitive to use. Highly recommended.

amyt:

The whole thing is the production of only two people, but after just twenty minutes playing with the site I can't say how stunned I am by the UI. If you appreciate usability at all you will be blown away just by the signup page; it validates every field as you complete it! I have to say, this even outdoes the recent stuff that Google has been releasing.

Rachel Nunson:

Just thought I'd publically declare my undying love for RTM. It's the best thing since RSS. It's helped me get things done more quickly already. Loving it.

Tony Summerville:

This web application is so freakin' intuitive – there's way too many features to list here. See 'em for yourself. Best of all: Totally Free!

Dan Li:

Remember The Milk rocks!!! Do I really need a PDA?

More comments we've received

Comment #1:

Very nice. Slick, Ajaxed and lickable – in fact, generally scrumptious. I never though to-do lists could be so exciting (or that I'd ever be enthusiastic about getting organised)!

Comment #2:

I don't have any words, just seven letters: a. w. e. s. o. m. e.

Comment #3:

Very useful, cool idea. it's how a web application should look, feel and behave. well done, one of the best webapps i've ever seen.

Comment #4:

The service is lovely — intuitive, attractive, fast, and amazingly polished for a beta.

Comment #5:

I just logged in for the first time, and at first sight, I'm already in love with Remember the Milk. Really, I just love the clean interface, and judging just by the options I get from the first screen, I already know I'll stick with this for some time to come. Excellent work!

Comment #6:

Absolutely incredible job! This is freakin' great! I'll be telling everyone about this.

Comment #7:

I just discovered your site and I wanted to drop a short line to tell you just how much of a life saver your site is… Your design is clean, very simple to use, and the cow logo is just great. "Remember the Milk" is clever, in addition. Keep up the great work!

Comment #8:

RTM is absolutely brilliant. I've been dying for something like this. Your browser support is great (I'm an Opera user) and the keyboard shortcuts – ah, perfection.

Stability issues ("blank pages") addressed

Thursday, October 13, 2005 by Omar Kilani

Some users have reported seeing blank pages and the "lists.load failed, try again?" message over the past day or so.

This turned out to be a problem within our caching layer, and we think we've now addressed it.

If the issue persists, please let us know.

We're sorry we missed that one, but our extensive scalability tests didn't seem to turn it up. Unfortunately it happened while I was stuck on a plane all day (apparently just prior to boarding a 14 hour flight from Sydney to San Francisco isn't the best time to launch your new web application).

Day One

Thursday, October 13, 2005 by Emily Boyd

Thank you to the thousands of people from all over the world who've signed up and tried Remember The Milk over the past day. We've been overwhelmed by the response we've received; sorry if we're a little slow replying to emails right now (remember, we're just two people and a stuffed monkey).

We've received some fantastic feedback and suggestions for the site, and we'll be posting more about that later. Also a quick thanks to Om Malik for posting about us this morning (we were starting to get worried that nobody would ever find us!).
